AID TO FAMILIES WITH DEPENDENT CHILDREN


Unemployed Parent Program (AFDC/AFDC-UP):

Provides financial assistance to certain relatives responsible for children who have been deprived of parental support due to a legally responsible person's death, continued absence, incapacity, or unemployment. Financial need and the age of the child(ren) are basic criteria for determining eligibility and payment amounts. Children must be under age 18 or if 18 be enrolled full-time in secondary school or the equivalent and expected to graduate by age 19. Persons eligible for AFDC are also automatically eligible for Medicaid.


Foster Care Program (AFDC-FC):

Provides financial assistance for children related to AFDC who have been removed from their homes and placed in the custody of the Division of Social Services.


Emergency Assistance Program (AFDC-EA):

Provides financial assistance to a family with children or a provider of essential services during emergency situations, such as natural disasters or fires.
