ADA Paratransit Eligibility Standards
Disabled individuals are eligible for paratransit services
under any of the following circumstances:
1) INDIVIDUAL'S DISABILITY
Any individual who is unable, because of a disability, to independently
board, ride, or disembark from an accessible vehicle.
2) LIMITED SYSTEM ACCESSIBILITY
Any individual with a disability who is able top independently board,
ride, or disembark from an acessible vehicle, when the system is not fully
accessible.
-
the boarding or disembarking
location the disabled person wishes to use is not accessible
-
a "common" wheelchair cannot
be accommodated
3) ABILITY TO TRAVEL TO OR
FROM BOARDING LOCATION
Individuals whose disability prevents them from traveling to or from a
boarding location.
-
the key word is "prevents"
-
architectural barriers do not
alone constitute eligibility, but the interaction of a barrier with an
individual's disability may. For example, an obstruction may make
accessibility impossible for one person and not another, and then perhaps
only in some situations. These conditions will be taken into account.
