Commander Boone Departs

The MacArthur Memorial said good-bye this month to Lt. Commander Edward J. Boone, Jr. Mr. Boone is the living encyclopedia of Douglas MacArthur if not all of world history and language. His thirty years of service to the Memorial began in 1973 when he joined the staff as Assistant Archivist following his retirement from the United States Navy. Between then and now he served as Archivist, Curator, and Director of the MacArthur Memorial.
After retiring from the City of Norfolk as Archivist in 1994, Mr. Boone was hired by the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation to catalogue the papers of Douglas MacArthur in our ReDiscovery computer cataloguing system. At the count of 300,000 pages catalogued he said "when." He had had enough.
It goes without saying that Commander Boone’s knowledge and wry wit will be sorely missed. His departure will be keenly felt by the staff as well as the patrons of the MacArthur Memorial.
