Leadership Changes at the Foundation

On November 21, 2003, a new slate of officers took the helm of the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation. Chairman Barry B. Anthony completed his term of service and turned over leadership responsibilities to Arthur A. Diamonstein. Mr. Anthony’s record of service was highlighted by the Foundation’s support of commemor-ative programs honoring the veterans of the Korean War and the dedication of the Purple Heart Trail monument at the MacArthur Memorial. He will continue serving the Foundation as an active member of the board.

Assuming the duties as chairman is Korean War veteran Arthur Diamonstein. During the Korean War, Mr. Diamonstein served with the 179th Regimental Tank Company, 45th Infantry Division [Thunderbirds] from November 1952 until August 1953. He was reassigned to 8th Army, 60th Ordinance Group until August 1954 when he returned to Norfolk. Continuing his service he attained the grade of First Lieutenant before leaving the U.S. Army Reserves in 1962. Mr. Diamonstein is Chairman of the Board, Paramount Industrial Companies, Inc., manufacturers of King Koil Sleep Products in Norfolk, Virginia. He has been an active director of the Foundation for eight years. An innovative supporter of heritage tourism and promoting the City of Norfolk, Mr. Diamonstein is an established and highly respected leader within the community and the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

The new slate of board officers also includes the Foundation’s counsel, Mr. James Mathews as Vice Chairman. Remaining in their offices are Mr. Richard Gresham as Secretary and Colonel Lyman Hammond as Treasurer.
