The computer has all the available records of the main library in Salt Lake City. It contains an ancestral file, a social security index and military records for the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Currently the Civil War Military records are being filmed.
The core of the collection, the Family History Library Catalog, is on microfiche. The various catalogs are: a surname catalog, locality records, author-title catalog, vital records (such as will, place names, DAR charts, etc.), a census film index from 1790 to 1920, church records of all
denominations, shipping records and a Bride/Groom list from North Carolina (1741-1868).
The center has microfilm readers and reader-printers. They charge twenty-five cents per copy of five for a dollar. The fee for a film order is $3.00. It takes approximately ten working days for ordered film to arrive. The film must be viewed on the premises.
The staff of the FHC would be glad to help family researchers with their searches. Please use their facilities in tandem with those of the Chesapeake Public Library.
