Children's Services

Storytime

Storytimes are programs of story sharing between staff and children and are designed especially to meet the needs of particular age groups. The attendance of older or younger children enlarges group size and hinders interaction between the storyteller and the children. You can help make storytimes an enjoyable and rewarding experience by having only the appropriate aged child attend the programs. The Chesapeake Public Library Children's Staff look forward to sharing their love of books and reading with your child. Please help our staff create a new generation of readers by reading to your child regularly. Feel free to ask for book selection assistance at any time.

Storytime Goals

Provide a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere for the presentation of stories, poetry, finger plays and songs.

Provide the child with a fun introduction to the library and library materials.

Contribute to your child's success as a reader by fostering a lifelong love of books through experience at an early age.

Introduce parents and caregivers to a variety of good children's literature and assist them in book selection appropriate to age levels.
