King William County
Cultural Heritage Corridor

The Pamunkey-Mattaponi Trail, commonly known as U.S. Route 30, provides local residents with efficient movment through King William County and critical connections to Route 360 and Route 33. Route 30 is also within a short drive of Interstate 64, the main tourist route into the Virginia Peninsula and beaches and attractions to the south.

What many local residents know, that more tourists bound for the well advertised destinations of Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Virginia Beach fail to realize, is that King William County is itself a mecca of cultural and natural wonders and a destination worthy of consideration for anyone interested in life on the Chesapeake Bay in the past and in the present.

King William County along with her Middle Peninsula neighbors and Northern Neck sister region are collaborating with other regional organizations and groups to develop the regions inherent tourism potential.

The Cultural Heritage Corridor reach the Mattaponi and Pamunkey and Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribes and their museum and cultural resources. The Mattaponi Legacy Plan that will be supported by the Mattaponi Heritage Foundation will contribute significantly to the broader regional vision.
