Jack And Jill by Jane Martin

Hampton Roads Premiere - This contemporary comedy by Jane Martin, the author who brought audiences theatrical gems such as Talking With... and Keely and Du, has added yet another to the collection. In this, one of her newest works, Jane Martin explores the treacherous and sometimes explosive minefield of modem wedlock. To love, honor and cherish is the easy part It's determining where one person leaves off and the other begins that proves the stumbling block. In a series of short scenes, the play chronicles the birth, life, death and possible rebirth of a relationship in the 1990s --for better or worse.

About the Author:Jane Martin, believed to be a pseudonym, has penned seven plays over the past decade, including the prizewinning Talking With and Cementville. She has never personally spoken about any of her works or been personally interviewed. Jon Jory, Artistic Director of the Actors Theatre of Louisville is the playwright's spokesperson and some believe the writer, a position he has repeatedly denied. The Seattle Weekly reported on July 13, 1994 that Jory said, "that Martin feels she could not write plays if people knew who she was, regardless of her identity or gender," Jory proffers that "The point in the end is the plays themselves. . . But if Jane's anonymity is a P.T. Barnum publicity stunt, it's one of the longest circus acts going." (Seattle Times, July 1, 1994)
